HR Designs participated in the JumpStart Small Business Expo hosted by Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College’s Center for Business Technology and Business Incubation. The event was held on Thursday, April 24 from 4-6pm and was open to the public. This was a B2B event where all the vendors offer a variety of services that can equip small businesses and entrepreneurs to develop a sustainable business model. A few of the functions represented were Accounting, Graphic & Website Designs, Marketing, and Finance, amongst others. HR Designs was the only vendor exclusively representing the Human Resources function.
I met quite a few business owners that were just starting out and I was able to brainstorm how HR will have an impact on their business in the future. I also met quite a few business owners that have been in business for 5-10 years and are starting to grow their employee base. A lot of these owners were interested in sourcing cost effective benefits and establishing consistent practices and policies for their employees.
All in all, I thought the event was very successful and I had the privilege of talking to over 50 small business owners with some very innovative ideas! Some of them needed some encouragement to talk, so I helped them with an inviting candy bowl and a business card drawing to one of the top coffee shops in Asheville called Green Sage Coffeehouse and Cafe.
